The answer came during his four years of active service with the United States Marine Corps. Jackson was skilled in soccer, athletics, and rowing, but he could see he wasn't going to attain the level he needed to compete internationally in those. The dream came to him in college, when two of his rowing teammates each made a different United States team - one for the World University Games and the other for the World Championships. Which sport didn't matter too much, so long as he could be on the team. Charlie Jackson had a dream to play sport for the United States national team.
